World AIDS Day 2007: In Remembrance Of Howard E. Rollins Jr.

Today the world reflects on the epidemic of AIDS and the people we have tragically lost as a result. I'd like to use today's posting as I did last year to honor the life of someone who touched our lives and died way to soon at the hands of this disease.

Howard E. Rollins Jr, actor, was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1950 where he studied theater at Towson State College. In 1981 Rollins received an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor for his excellent performance in Ragtime (one of my all time favorite movies). He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1983 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for his role on Another World. He later went onto star in the motion picture A Solider Story and in the television series In The Heat Of The Night. Legal difficulties coupled with reported problems with drugs and alcohol unfortunately characterized the latter part of his career. Rollins died in 1996 after complications from AIDS-related lymphoma. He had been diagnosed with the condition approximately six weeks earlier. Rollins was laid to rest in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Baltimore. He was 46 years old.

Howard Rollins was a truly gifted actor and a quite handsome man, who's star shined brightly but unfortunately all too briefly.

I feel sooo out of it. I too loved Howard's acting abilities as back in the day "In the Heat of the Night" was one of my favorite shows. I had no clue that he had passed 11 years ago and let alone to aids. Disturbing.

His last couple of months were overshadowed by his offscreen antics, moreso than his acting. Showing his tail, getting arrested in drag, getting fired off of his show. He was a tormented soul. I hope he's found peace at last.

@Whoz-Ivent from You Better Recognize! just wanted to show you some love since you've shown me some!! I had forgotten all about Howard Rollins, bless his heart. thanks for the reminder ^5

So sad about Rollins. That flick Ragtime was tight!

Mountii, I practice safe sex but about six months ago at a party I ran into a guy I had been hot for for months but thought I didn't have a chance. He was drinking and smoking, I was drinking. He came onto me, we went home. He passionately attacked my body as soon as we closed the apartment door. Both of us high, in the middle of foreplay he poked as if to go in, it went in, no rubber, neither of us stopped. I was scarred up until I redid my HIV test and the results were negative.

Sometimes when you're high, it just happens. I'll try not to let it happen in the future but sometimes it just happens.
